Marketplace’s series on philanthropy: the gradual move toward individual, online giving
Posted By carmody.chris On December 6, 2007 @ 4:39 pm In Philanthropy & Social Entrepreneurship | No Comments
Janet Babin of NPR’s Marketplace Innovations Desk (http://wunc.org/programs/marketplace-innovations-desk/) recently did a piece on trends encouraging online philanthropy.
One very innovative online philanthropy organization Justgive.org. Justgive.org is “Dedicated to creating tools and services to make charitable giving part of our everyday lives, JustGive is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase charitable giving by connecting people with the charities and causes they care most about.”
The organization offers an extensive number of options for individual online giving - both financially and in terms of volunteer efforts including
*Charity Auctions; Charity Malls; Donation of Goods; Money donations; Holiday Gift Ideas; Listings of Other Online Charity Sites; Search tools for Charity; Suggestions of Sporting events for Charity; Volunteer opportunities
In a modest way, online giving may democratize philanthropy while also providing critical resources to smaller non-profits that don’t have enormous development capacity.
